Cobwebs are generated in Abandoned Mine Shafts and are made in particularly large amount next to cave spider spawners. They can also be found in Strongholds, especially in the libraries.

Cobwebs slow movement. Any items dropped into it will make the item "stick" slightly, making movement slower. However, falling into a cobweb will not prevent fall damage, only delay it.

To obtain a string the cobweb must be destroyed by shears, pistons, running water, or a sword.
