Used for climbing walls either horizontally or vertically. To climb safely, you can sneak (hold shift) to hold on.

Ladders occupy the entire space that they are in (classifying them as a solid block) although they are 2-dimensional objects.

Ladders can provide a quick way of descending a long way. Regardless of how far you fall, once you enter a ladder's area of effect, you will be slowed to a normal descending speed while taking no fall damage.
