Eat to restore hunger bar. Normally, health regeneration happens only when you have a full hunger bar. However, golden apples also restores health when eaten.

Golden apples can be found in dungeon chests.

If a player makes a golden apple with gold blocks instead of gold ingots, it will become the more powerful enchanted golden apple, which regenerates health for a much longer time and includes fire/physical damage resistance.
